End of Day 3 - a day of testing

Denali and Lucy finally got a good nights sleep.

Although their day began at 5am when Lucy had her Guthrie test. A guthrie test involves taking a blood sample from the baby's heel. It is sent to a lab in Auckland to test for a number of rare metabolic disorders. Disorders such as Congenital hypothyroidism, Cystic fibrosis, and Phenylketonuria among others.

The midwife on duty is a bit concerned about Lucy's hormonal milk spots (can't remember actual term for them). She thinks it could be a staff infection and has taken swabs for testing. We'll find out on Monday. Another midwife didn't think it was anything to be concerned about, but they'll treat her for it anyway. It's pretty common. It just looks a bit blotchey and gross. They give her a bath in some sort of special solution, and rub some cream into her to get rid of it.

I looked after Sophie quite a bit today. Her Balala (Denali's Mum) bought her a special doll of her own, that drinks water and then pees it out. Sophie loves it and we spent a lot of time today feeding it. I spent a lot of time dabbing my wet thigh after this bloody doll has pee'd on me! As if one baby isn't enough.

Had some more visitors today. Thank you again for all the lovely presents and flowers. They really brighten up the day.

Denali was told she may be transferred to Lincoln today, but was later told that she could stay so they can monitor Lucy's potential staff infection.

That's enough blabbering from me. Enjoy some new photos...

Some of these photos make Lucy look really red. I can assure you that she doesn't actually look that colour!
