Fireworks

We went up to a friend's place in Khandalla on Saturday night to watch the Wellington Sky Show or fireworks as most people call them.

It was a pretty cool show over the harbour coupled with music blasted from 91ZM. I was pleasantly suprised to find that the fireworks actually did match the music in many places too. Usually the fireworks don't match up, but who ever engineered the timing had obviously planned it well enough to match.

You can watch the entire show by clicking the link below.
It was all filmed in timelapse and has been sped up
so that the 20min show now plays in just under 2 min.

Alternatively, you can download the movie from the Lord Weekly Download Site HERE.

Lord Weekly Movie Reviews

The Rating System:

5/5... Epic: A triumphant use of celluloid. A MUST SEE!
4/5... Fantastic: A bloody good film with only a few weaknesses.
3/5... Neat-O: Passes the time satisfyingly but then again so does Seseme St.
2/5... Meh: Better than a kick in the pants.
1/5... Tragic: Give me that kick in the pants.

Film: Batman - the Movie (1966)
Rating: 3/5 - Naomi
Other Ratings: 5/5 - Richard
Stars: Adam West (Batman) Burt Ward (Robin or "The boy wonder")
Reviewer Comment: What can I say - RANDOM. I guess I'm comparing the movie to today's standard, but wow it was weird! Funny to watch obviously, but not everyone's cup of tea!
Other Reviewer Comments: This film is for lovers of the totally absurd. The film's plot points come in sudden twists and turns that leave you reeling with laughter. It is undoubtedly the BEST superhero film ever made! Hire it out right away, invite some friends over and enjoy a bloody great night.
Favourite Quote: Batman and Robin solve a riddle...
Batman (reading a sky written message) - What goes up white and comes down yellow & white?
Robin - An Egg!
Batman (reading another) - How do you divide 17 apples between 16 people?
Robin - Make apple sauce!
Batman (thinking out loud) - Apples into applesauce - A unification into one smooth mixture. An egg - natures perfect container. The container of all our hopes for the future.
Robin - A unification and a container of hope? United World Organisation!
Trivia: Originally planned as the pilot for the Batman 1966 second TV series, the movie was instead produced between the shows first and second seasons, the producers took FULL advantage of the larger budget to have a number of new Bat-gadgets constructed... e.g. the Bat boat. And boy did they really take advantage - every second word was about a new Bat gadget!

Film: American Splendor (2003)
Rating: 4/5
Reviewer Comment: This is the story of the life of Harvey Pekar, creator of the famous comic book series 'American Splendor'. The comic series commentates on his everyday life, his struggles and triumphs and every mundane detail in between. The film puts moving pictures to his comic books and succeeds in illustrating his life stories in a unique way. I have been meaning to see this film for long time now and it is one that I would highly recommend. It has won multiple awards at Cannes and was nominated for an Oscar in 2004 for Best Original Screenplay.

Flim: Taxi Driver (1976)
Rating: 5/5 - Richard
Review Comment: I saw this for the first time just the other day. I hadn't heard or read anything about the film, other than people said it was 'pretty good'. First and foremost, I thought it was an excellent portrayal of lonliness and marginalisation, however depressing that might sound to you. I loved how well you got to know the main character, taxi driver Travis Bickle (Robert De Niro). Director, Martin Scorsese really takes you inside his head to discover just how profoundly disturbed and isolated he is from mainstream society, and just how much he longs to be part of it. As a vietnam veteran it's also interesting to watch Bickle transform into someone who is essentially lonely into someone that becomes a pseudo-commando, bent on 'cleaning up the filth' and 'defending' the oppressed. Although, this isn't by any means an action flick. It's dark, it's mysterious and full of subtleties. Highly recommended.
