Today has been quite tiring for Denali and I... and bubs of course. I have just arrived home after unsuccessfully attempting to settle Sophie to sleep at the hospital.
We have had some trouble feeding Sophie today. It is common for mothers who have had c-sections to find it difficult to produce collustrum (sp?) in the first couple of days. Well, today was the day and Sophie was crying all evening as we tried and tried to get her something to drink. Eventually Denali came through and left a satisfied bubs for about 30 mins. The midwife said the next 24 hours will be difficult because Sophie will just continue to cry and want to feed every hour until Denali's milk comes in. It's amazing what your child's cry will do to you. Denali and I have found it quite hard at times, but we are training ourselves to recognise her different cries and check her nappies regularly.
She loves being held and walked around the ward, it really puts her to sleep. I think that is my favourite job so far. She is so beautiful and she just stares up at you with huge blue eyes, which gradually close as she falls into a gentle sleep. It's great until I stop, then it's all over! So Dad gets up again and off we go. I am thinking of installing track lanes around the ward so that at least the other fathers can have races or something while we plod on. Today I changed four pooey nappies and one weese nappy. The poos is really sticky and thick and black. I wish I had a cork.
Denali had dictated a long blog comment, which regrettably I have left at the hospital, so it will have to wait until tomorrow evening. However, she is doing well. She is looking much more awake and peppy than yesterday - much more chirpy too. Denali is totally in love with Sophie, but has just sent me a text saying that "Being a mum sure is tiring". I guess we are both beginning to understand what our own parents went through and all the effort it took to keep us healthy and warm. Which is why I cannot understand exactly how my parents could ever refuse to pay me a bigger allowance when I was older when I was so cute as a baby. So strange... so strange.
Now... some of you have been asking what colour hair Sophie has. Well, as you can see in the photos, it is black like her Mum's. But who knows what ginga suprises lay dormant in the depths of her scalp! If it does turn ginga then KATE DIVETT - you have to promise to treat it as equally as other children. Gingas may not have souls, but they do make lovely babies who need lots of love from Aunty Kate.
Sophie has got little red blotches on her skin, and as 'Crazy Gran' said in her blog comment, it is quite a normal hormonal thing that happens to a lot of babies.
Denali has absolutely enjoyed receiving lots of flowers and presents today. So thank you everyone for sending us such lovely gifts and treats. Some of you have requested our address and contact details. I have posted these previously but to save you searching through all the previous posts to find it... here they are again.

No doubt you only want such details so you can send me chocolate cake.
Also, we are now allowed to use our cell phones in the ward, so Denali will be able to reply fairly promptly... whenever it suits her.
Hopefully bubs and Denali will be at home by this Saturday and Sunday. At the moment we have builders here finishing off a deck, installing a new hot water cylinder and installing 3 more wall mounted panel heaters. Betty and I have NO hot water for tomorrow though because the plumber failed to show up today!! Bugger!
OK, it's 11:28pm. I am off to bed. Talk more tomorrow.
Lots of love,
R & D & S.

Stick with it you three- once the milk is in you will be pretty much home 'n hosed. Yeah-tiredness comes with babies unfortunately- wouldn't it be good to be royalty and have a nanny fulltime?
Love you and thanks for the many photos.
I was thinking today that once grandparents see their grandchildren they want to live for ever so they don't miss anything of this special one's life. Think I'll write a poem!!Love Helen
PS I just bought ten pairs of pretty baby girl tights in Mongolia at the Black market so if you are thinking of buying something- maybe better not to buy those. (mind you Richard could sell them on Trade Me!)
You can tell I have nothing much to do eh?
